HABS is a non-profit educational agency founded in 2021 in the German state of Hessen with the aim to support instructors and educational as well as vocational training institutions in fostering their clients' professional language competences. HABS is devoted to, and spearheading, task- and content-based approaches to language learning and teaching with a special focus on communicative needs of the workforce.
It features qualification programmes and training modules for language trainers as well as vocational instructors of any professional field, ranging from nursing to retail professions, hotel and restaurant industry, logistics, to environmental and other trades.
HABS offers a huge variety of instructor training concepts, materials, and teaching methods, scenario-based teaching materials using modern digital media and learning/working platforms, consulting services, and on-site support. Its primary focus is the integration of migrants into the German-speaking workforce, and society at large, by enhancing their skills in professional German in their respective fields and by fostering their understanding and mastery of German vocational cultures.
In close cooperation with the Ministry of Social Services and Employment in the state of Hessen as well as an array of diverse businesses and educational institutions HABS has developed, implemented and evaluated a far-reaching set of quality standards and funding procedures prone to significantly raise the quality of professional development measures in that state on a broad range (BQS+).
The HABS team consists of academically certified specialists in vocational language training whose work at HABS contributes to furthering our understanding of learning processes and work cultures. HABS is affiliated with the Institute of German as a Foreign Language at Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich.
